Driven to distrust? 78% of drivers are skeptical of mechanics

A ConsumerAffairs survey of 1,000 drivers found that 78% don’t always trust their mechanic, only 17% feel they’re always charged fairly, and around 80% believe they’ve been overcharged at some point. Tellingly, about 83% said they double-check a mechanic’s recommendation with someone they know.

That instinct — get a second opinion before you say yes — is exactly what OwnWise provides, and not just for cars. The reason people feel overcharged is information asymmetry: the person quoting the work knows what’s wrong and what it costs, and you don’t. OwnWise levels that out by giving you an independent read on the likely fault, whether the recommended fix is reasonable, and what it should cost — so you can walk into any repair, appliance or auto, already knowing whether the quote adds up.

Trust, but verify; OwnWise is how you verify.
