Product registration: companies should make it automatic

A University of Michigan study found that most people never register the products they buy — which quietly costs them, because unregistered owners miss out on warranty service and, more seriously, safety recalls. The researchers’ proposed fix is to make registration automatic.

You don’t have to wait for manufacturers to fix that. The whole problem is that proof and coverage live in scattered receipts, emails, and registration cards nobody keeps — so when something breaks, people pay out of pocket for repairs that were covered all along. OwnWise closes that gap now: it tracks what you own, surfaces the warranties and protection plans that apply, flags active recalls, and tells you when a repair should be someone else’s bill.

Registration is about not leaving coverage on the table — and that’s exactly what OwnWise is built to prevent.
