Frigidaire minifridge recall grows to nearly 1 million over a fire risk

On January 15, 2026, Curtis International — which makes Frigidaire-branded compact refrigerators — expanded its minifridge recall by another 330,000 units, bringing the total to nearly 964,000 in the United States.

The hazard is electrical: the minifridges’ internal components can short-circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn risks. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission cites at least six reports of the newly added model EFMIS121 catching fire, on top of 26 earlier reports of units smoking, sparking, melting, or burning, with property damage topping $700,000. The recalled fridges — models EFMIS121, EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175 — sold exclusively at Target and Target.com from January 2020 through October 2023 for around $30.
