LG recalls 500,000 electric ranges after fires, burns and pet deaths

In February 2025, LG recalled roughly 500,000 freestanding electric ranges. The hazard is the front-mounted knobs: a passing hip, a grocery bag, or a pet can turn a burner on without anyone noticing.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission cites at least 86 reports of unintended activation, more than 28 fires, over $340,000 in property damage, and three fires involving pet deaths. LG’s free remedy is a warning label plus instructions for using the range’s lock-out feature.

If you own one, keep children and pets away from the knobs and request the free remedy from LG. A recall remedy is free regardless of warranty age — and that is the first thing OwnWise checks when you describe a fault, so you never pay for something the maker already owes you.
